Shiny and new…

I have been lusting over some cute transitional summer pieces recently and finally purchased them this week treating myself due to my non existent social life during recent times….

This cute easy to wear summer dress is just perfect for summer with an open back detail. At £34 i thought it was reasonably priced for Topshop plus discount honestly i just love staff discount!! I am planning on wearing this dress over summer with some cute sandals and also taking on my travels to Thailand as its light and doesn’t crease easy. toppers 2I have wanted these shoes for so long. I purchased them on uniform allowance which justified the £54 price tag, oops! They are super comfy and go with everything so im hoping they last me until the height of summer and i just love the girly lace up detail!

And… The Worst.

Katie Holmes.

Looking more like the beast than the Belle, inspired by the famous Disney film this mustard yellow Marchesa gown simply suffocated Katie’s stunning figure and left her looking more toilet chic than Hollywood glamor complete with messy hair executed badly.

Suki Waterhouse.

This model who is dating handsome Bradley Cooper went tonal tackiness, in this pink chiffon like gown. The pale color of the gown alongside the models natural pale beauty simply washed her out making her look ghostly instead of glamorous, and as for the hideous frills, ill fitting bust line and unplanned hair…

Kirsten Dunst.

The former Spiderman star attempted to look ‘cute’ rather than glamorous in this star wars inspired Rodarte dress however she looked out of this world in a bad way complete with a hideous patterns and velvet elements this dress was more fancy dress than elegant and did absolutely nothing for the English rose’ figure. She surely was from a galaxy far far away… where style is unknown.

Sarah-Jessica Parker.

Dissapointly Sarah Jessica did not look her usually quirky elegant self in this Oscar de la Renta stamped gown complete with designers name cheaply imprinted on the trail. It all just looked a little too much overkill with the big hair, big skirt , accompanying gloves and bright yellow heels, fussy in an understatement. She looked more Carrie gone wrong than chic.

Met Gala. The Best….

The most glamorous night in fashion did not disappoint last night, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held the Met Gala hosted by American Vogue editor Anna Wintour who raised the ticket price this year from $10,000 to $25,000!!

Old school elegance was the theme of the evening, putting last years punk theme straight to bed with an official theme of ‘white tie and decorations’. Now obviously there is always those outrageous celebs who look more like mutton than Monroe however there was some beautiful ensembles and some of my personal favorites were….

The Beckham’s.

Victoria played it a little safe, yet did elegant lines and minimal to perfection with just a few pieces of Jacob & Co diamonds and a dress from her personal collection. However the pinning point of this couple was definitely Mr Beckham himself, who quite frankly could look good in a black bin bag! His sleek matching tonal suit complimented Victoria and made him a dashing individual complete with rugged stubble and signature quiff. Yet i do wonder… with all that money why are Victoria’s hair extensions so awful???

B and Jay z.

This showbiz twosome did not disappoint in the glamor stakes, complete with beading and diamonds. Jay z showcased a superior figure in an excellent tailored two piece accompanying Beyonce’s extravagant low cut beaded ensemble which looked extremely heavy yet graced her curves beautifully! The veiled headpiece gave a mysterious feel to the dress and her dark lipstick stood out from the crowd of pretty monochrome. Can this fashion duo ever get it wrong?

Blake Lively accompanied by equally handsome husband Ryan Reynolds.

Its safe to say Blake has come a long way since her gossip girl days, looking breathtaking in a Gucci Premiere gown with fitted perfectly and complimented her tanned American skin. Her simple yet sophisticated perfectly waved hair complete her Hollywood look coupled with a handsome husband on her arm made her the belle of the ball.

Jessica Alba.

This golden beauty teamed her glowing skin with a fitting muted gold lace design by Diane Von Furstenberg completed with golden hues make up and a chic up do proving she can do no fashion wrongs.

Selena Gomez.

This young star defied her immature age by wearing this beautiful wine creation complete with matching lipstick and smokey make up. Accentuating her fabulous figure the gown made the star look mature and elegant with a low cute neck line and fitted body.

Kendall Jenner.

My favorite look of the night by far was this Kardashian clan beauty wearing a custom Topshop nude fishtail gown that fitted her silhouette like a glove. Big hair and simple accessories allowed Kendall’s natural beauty to shine through, showcasing her savvy style in contrast to her reality star sisters. This model has come a long way since her geeky days on the famous Keeping up with the Kardashians and is now a respected catwalk model. Topshop proved a big hit with models attending the Met Gala with accompanying pals of Kendall’s also looking incredible in custom Topshop.

Moss for Topshop… AGAIN.

One of the strongest bonds in fashion is that of Kate Moss and Topshop god Phillip Green. Following a four year hiatus Kate Moss launched a new high street collection for the popular brand causing a celebration to be proud of with celebs such as Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne and Sienna Miller in attendance, all rocking Kate Moss of course.

The launch was as sensational just like Kate herself with a traffic stopping in store experience at London’s Oxford Circus followed by a chic VIP dinner at The Connaught. Duke Dumont performed in shop windows as Kate herself introduced the collection to the eagerly awaiting crowds dressed in a suit from the collection. Later on Moss switched up the glamor and transformed into a liquid metallic gown and beaded fringed jacket, which subsequently sold out within hours of the launch to join mogul Phillip Green for the chic dinner including only the hottest of attendees.

The collection itself is very Moss however i cant help feeling it is a little too similar to previous complete with sequins and fringing at an extortionate price.

Items from the collection sold out within hours and appeared on eBay for in excess of £750 pounds! Kate is said to have sourced inspiration for the 40 piece collection from her own wardrobe which as originally predicted isn’t full of just designer labels as the supermodel claims she loves scouring the rails of second hand stores. In addition to channeling a somewhat vintage look she was also keen to reflect a laid back style with comfortable trousers and distinct prints. Switching it up to Hollywood glamor within the evening wear complete with flapper style dresses and floor length metallic numbers.

You have to hand it to the superior supermodel, she sure knows how to work the camera…

Student sessions!!

Every student gets giddy at the thought of extra student discount, even if it is just a pound or two (usually the case).

Birmingham’s Bullring shopping center are holding an exclusive student event on 1st May 2014 offering goody bags, double discounts, treats galore and hunky male models offering free champagne! A whole host of brands have already been confirmed including numerous brands in Selfridges which makes the whole event a little more exclusive.

This week in pictures…

Lady Obama accompanied by her daughters Sasha and Malia visits the Great Wall of China

Last but not least..
Lady Gaga makes a futuristic entrance to meet fans in New York.

And the WORST…

Liza Minnelli may be a Hollywood legend but her lack of bra and visible nipple pads were a little more than distracting from her royal blue silk trouser suit clashing with the oh so red carpet. Brownie points for matching the hair to the outfit though!

There is no doubting Pharrell Williams is uber cool yet he certainly set tongues waging with this oh so wrong look at the Oscars showcasing shorts in all the wrong ways. Not only did he look dwarf like compared to his beautiful wife who rocked a two piece elegantly, it was very much business on top party down below. He certainly set social media on fire, no doubt there will be several business men rocking half trousers next week.

The Oscars, BEST…

The fashion that lines the famous red carpet at the Oscars has became almost as famous as the gold gongs themselves.
This year did not disappoint in the fashion stakes here are some of my favorite looks from the red carpet…

Jennifer Lawrence provided the perfect scarlet in this beautiful fitted, strapless Dior dress with peplum detail and unusual backwards necklace. Although for her age her hair was a little aging with its zebra style highlights dampening the look slightly.

Kate Hudson brought true Hollywood glamour to the evening with this stunning beaded Versace dress complete with deep plunge v neck and cape detail showcasing just the right amount of flesh, complimented with flawless make up and effortless hair.

My absolute favorite look of the night came from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at the Vanity Fair Oscar’s party. Sporting a sophisticated pale blue Cushnie et Ochs gown, the knock-out model was the picture of elegance supported by boyfriend Jason Statham. The dress featured classical pearl detailing and strategically placed sheer paneling, the perfect shade for Rosie’s English rose skin complexion.

Crowd falls crazy in love with Mrs Carter.

I was lucky enough have tickets for the Beyoncé concert in Birmingham this week and i was super excited to see her finally, after hearing rave reviews from friends of mine about the ‘Queen B’ of pop. And she DID NOT disappoint! The show was full steam ahead from the minute the logo encrusted curtain lifted to reveal Beyoncé belting out ‘run the world (girls)’ fitting for the majority female audience who were on their feet singing and dancing all night long. Although used effectively the staging was surprisingly simply which only highlighted Beyoncé’s fierce presence much more, with an all female incredibly talented live band to her two twin male dancers who kept the crowd entertained between outfit changes, everything was FLAWLESS in the words of the queen herself. The introduction of new songs was hugely welcome by myself personally as i love the new visual album and her vocals were absolutely out of this world, especially when she sang a rendition of Whitney Houston ‘i will always love you’ which gave me goosebumps, the atmosphere was unreal.

Two things are undeniable about Beyoncé. First, the voice – her vocals for the entire evening were sublime and effortless. Combined with some impressive choreography, Beyoncé is one helluva performer. Even when on stage by herself, Beyoncé is a captivating performer and doesn’t need ostentatious set pieces to give a memorable performance. Secondly, there’s her star quality and charm. In those moments engaged with the audience, Beyoncé’s warmth poured out of her, undoubtedly aided by her Texan drawl and infectious smile that you cannot help but fall in love with.

What IS she doing?: Beyonce Knowles shared this photo of herself straddling a prop during the European leg on her Mrs Carter World Tour which kicked off Thursday

On the fashion front – the costume changes were all seamless with little interruption, from ghetto glamor to full on sophistication the outfits were impeccably thought out and fitting. And one thing is for sure, Beyoncé would look good in a plastic bin bag, her body is INCREDIBLE and envious and i will one hundred per cent be going to see her again…

London fashion week always brings a plethora of easy, new hair trends to try out..From soft bohemian waves to slicked back locks and fierce up-dos.

My favorite award winning creative director from Birmingham’s Francesco group James Earnshaw was creating serious hair envy during his time at London Fashion Week via Instagram, working for fabulous hair tool brand cloud nine he helped create some effortless hair looks, perfect day to night styles. My favorite easy to wear hair stemmed from Emilio de la Morena’s show, created by cloud nine this easy slicked back root with fresh textured ends is perfect for lazy hair days or uncontrollable ends and easy to replicate with any hair length/thickness.

This quick tutorial filmed at London Fashion Week shows you how to achieve this look for some serious hair envy…
